The Town of Shediac issued 227 permits over the past year. In the residential sector, more than 175 permits were granted for a value of $16,275,500.10. Over $40 million worth of multi-family residential permits were recorded in the past year, and on the commercial side, the municipality issued 29 building permits totalling $48,471,048.04. The Town of Shediac pulverized the total value of building permits for 2022 of $69.5 million, reaching $105,548,902.24 in 2023.
The small coastal town's main strategy remains to increase its population, provide the services needed to keep residents safe and active, while continuing to attract local and outside investors.
"Our municipality is experiencing significant growth, and we must continue on this path while placing our priority on the aspects that make Shediac one of the best places to live, work and do business," said Shediac Mayor Roger Caissie.
As a result of the amalgamation in 2023, the municipality's population grew to over 11,000, and its territory expanded to include Scoudouc, Scoudouc Road, Shediac Cape and Pointe-du-Chêne.
"Shediac must retain the unique character that sets it apart from the rest, while encouraging local and outside investment that will enable us to finance the important projects our population will need in the future," said the Mayor of Shediac.
The Town of Shediac's Economic Development and Tourism Department sees 2024 as a very promising year, thanks in part to the announcement of a major public infrastructure project and a residential construction sector that will remain stable.
“The provincial government is expected to announce the location of the new K-12 English school in Shediac in the near future," says Danny Pellerin, Director of Economic Development and Tourism. In addition, construction continues in rapidly developing subdivisions such as Domaine Beauséjour and Domaine des Faisans.”
Discussions are underway to finalize several industrial and commercial projects, including a major project in the Scoudouc industrial park.
"A 139,000 sq. ft. refrigerated warehouse project is planned in the Scoudouc Industrial Park, and with population growth and the value of permits issued over the past four years, Shediac is increasingly on the radar of investors," concluded Mr. Pellerin.
According to Shediac's mayor, Roger Caissie, demographic and financial growth is on course, and the municipality's development is following the same trend.
"It is essential that the Town of Shediac maintains a good pace in its development, while ensuring a good balance of all aspects, such as the environment and the economy," he concluded.
